The cinema is a dream, he says. In the house by the sea, they have entered the cinématheque of Limbo, and are watching their dreams.
“The dream of reality broken into a billion shattered pieces,” she muses. “The dream of coconut milk with chicken soup. The dream of home. The dream of Jeff Goldblum. The dream of motorbikes. The dream of eating steak au poivre at a white-tablecloth restaurant underground. The dream of revolution. The dream of a murderous dwarf in a red cloak in an alley near a canal. The dream of an empty city becoming full again, after everything, after the calamity. The dream of peonies. The dream of metal detectors at airports and cocktails on a plane. The dream of a glass elevator floating off into space. The dream of crocodiles. The dream of baseball. The dream of cinema. The dream of the woman of your dreams. The dream of mothers. The dream of good French cheese. The dream of a jigsaw of New York. The dream of reality broken into a billion shattered pieces.”
“Limbo,” he says, “is a place in between the world and the world. A place where everything can be dreamed of and nothing can be done.”
